Chase Wright Drops the Top and Hits the Gas in New Track, ‘Drive’

Newcomer Chase Wright chases the romantic freedom in the new track, “Drive,” hitting the road with no destination in mind — except love.

A 24-year-old Indiana native who just released his first music six months ago, the fresh face is only just getting started. But with his newest release, he’s already captured a blast of country chemistry.

Co-written by Wright with Hunter Phelps and Will Bundy, “Drive” hits the gas with a top-down country-rock sound and story every small-town teenager knows by heart. With a striking, auto-tuned vocal, Wright sets the scene as a young couple cruising their local backroads — but looking for a place to pull off. Electronic beats and steel guitars give the track a modern edge, while pounding drums and Wright’s casual/sensual vocal add a dose of urgency. All in all it continues a promising start for the new artist, following his previously dropped “Wish You’d Miss Me” and “My Kinda Morning.”

“With each new song, I am sharing more of who I am, and the response from fans has been great,” Wright says. “We all might be from different walks of life, but we have a lot more in common than we think. Whether through the vulnerability of heartbreak and longing in ‘Wish You’d Miss Me’ or reveling in the moments that make you feel most alive like ‘My Kinda Morning,’ it’s been great to hear from those who relate to those experiences. It’s been very cathartic!

“This one is a celebration of the little things in life that I have really learned to appreciate over the past year,” he goes on. “The freedom of getting out of the house for a drive and being with someone that makes you feel like you’re right where you are meant to be.”

“Drive down a backwoods byway / Every mile you slide closer my way / Way out where nobody knows where we are / Slow kiss while we’re waitin’ on the night train / Lookin’ at you lookin’ at me tryin’ to keep it in the right lane / You and me two high beams in the dark / Baby let’s drive / Till we find a place to park,” goes the passionate chorus.

Chase Wright first picked up a guitar four short years ago as a freshman track star at DePauw University, where he graduated with a degree in economics. Along with “Drive,” and his other early tracks, fans can check out “Why Should We.”
