Nike Is Suing The Company That Partnered With Lil Nas X For His ‘Satan Shoes’ (Update)

TSR Updatez: After denying any involvement in Lil Nas X’s controversial “Satan Shoes,” Nike is now suing the art collective that partnered with the rapper to make the kicks.

Nike already said their name is Bennett and they’re not in it but now according to TMZ, the shoe giant is suing MSCHF Product Studio for the creation of the customized Nike Air Max 97 shoes, which feature the pentagram symbol and allegedly a drop of human blood from one of MSCHF’s employees.

There are also only 666 pairs being made, and they’re selling for more than a rack. Lil Nas X announced the shoe partnership after he dropped his equally controversial music video for his song “Montero.”

According to the docs obtained by TMZ, Nike claims MSCHF is tricking consumers into thinking it approved the Satan-themed shoes, but Nike insists it didn’t authorize the production or sale of the shoe and “is in no way connected with this project.”

Nike is claiming that MSCHF buys the shoes from Nike, then the artists it works with put their own twist on the products before selling them at a higher price.

MSCHF is the same company that created those “Birkin Birkens” Future was seen rocking.

Nike is specifically suing for trademark infringement because its famous Swoosh logo is still prominently featured on Lil Nas X’s shoes. Nike wants damages and is asking the judge to block all sales of the shoes.

Lil Nas X does not seem to be backing off and continues to troll critics who have called him out for the shoes.

MSCHF has not released a statement in response to the backlash or the lawsuit but we’ll keep you posted should the company speak out.
