Country star Justin Moore is a devoted dad, there’s no question about that. He and his wife Kate are the parents to four kids at their home in Arkansas — three girls and a boy named South — but even the best parents have tough days. And after South recently broke his leg (for a second time), Moore was pretty bummed out.
Speaking with Taste of Country Nights about the accident, the hit maker explained that 3-year-old South was the victim of every parent’s nemesis — the dreaded trampoline double bounce. Kate was out of town so Moore was on dad duty solo, which he says is usually no big deal. “I’m totally comfortable with it,” Moore explained. But this time was different.
“I go pick ‘em up from school, we go outside,” he said. “They’re all four on the trampoline and my 7-year-old is usually really good about keeping out for her brother and stopping her sisters from doing something stupid, you know. So I said, ‘I’m gonna run in, I’m gonna grab a glass of water. I’ll be right back.’”
That was apparently the signal for all four kids to do their worst, and when Moore got back South was in a bad way.
“My 11-year-old was nowhere to be found, ” he said. “My 9-year-old, who’s a little more devious in nature, had double-jumped him, if you know what I mean by that. So I carried him to the doctor and low and behold, broken.”
Moore went on to say that South will be fine and Kate actually calmed him down after the accident, as they talked over the phone. But South had previously broken his other leg while spending time with his grandfather at church, of all places, so the experience was a difficult one. Still, kids will be kids, and the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, since Moore also admitted to breaking plenty of bones and earning some stitches as a boy, too.
Justin Moore released his current single “We Didn’t Have Much” in 2020. He’s been staying busy through the pandemic by hosting The Justin Moore Podcast, with guests like Jon Pardi, Lainey Wilson and more, and he’ll appear in concert at Salute 2 Frontline Workers in Sioux Falls, South Dakota April 10.
