Country icon and long time actress Reba McEntire has a cheerful leading role coming up. She’ll star in the Lifetime original movie, Christmas In Tune, as part of the channel’s 2021 holiday lineup.
Revealed March 3 during a virtual presentation by the network, Christmas In Tune is said to tell the story of a character named Belle — a marketing executive played by McEntire who is worried about losing her job.
“She decides to reunite a singing duo for a charity Christmas concert, but the problem is — the singers are actually her parents and they have not spoken to each other in years!” Lifetime says, according to reporting by The Wrap. “Soon the at-odds couple is helping Belle get her life in order and she begins her own romantic duet with the new man in her life.”
McEntire will reportedly be singing an original song and taking a producer’s role in the movie, which will be filmed this spring. It’s the first project in a two-picture deal with Lifetime, with another, non-holiday project expected next year.
The country star has a long film and TV resume — including a surprise cameo in the recently-released Kristen Wigg comedy, Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar. She has a recurring guest role on TV’s Young Sheldon and famously led the cast of the popular Reba sitcom, and has also appeared in films such as Tremors through the years.
“I am thrilled to partner with Lifetime for a return to television movies!” she says. “My fans and I enjoy their programming and loved watching the Reba show there for so many years.”
