Black Excellence Was On Full Display At The Golden Globes—As Chadwick Boseman, Daniel Kaluuya, Andra Day & More Take Home Awards!

Roommates, award shows generally don’t have the best reputation when it comes to awarding Black excellence—but this year’s Golden Globes were a bit different. Actors such as the late Chadwick Boseman, Daniel Kaluuya and newcomer Andra Day all took home the coveted award for their standout performances this year.

Going into the 2021 Golden Globes, Chadwick Boseman was the favorite to win for Best Actor in a Drama—and that’s exactly what he did. The late actor, who tragically passed away last year following a secret battle with colon cancer, won for his incredible performance in the Netflix musical drama “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” alongside Viola Davis. His wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, gave an emotional acceptance speech filled with tears, as she thanked his co-stars, mentors, fans and celebrity friends.

Daniel Kaluuya also took home a Golden Globe statue for his performance in the recently released “Judas And The Black Messiah,” which was the night’s very first award. He won for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama for his portrayal as Black Panther Fred Hampton in the biographical film.

However, the most surprising win of the night was singer (and now actress) Andra Day who won over Viola Davis for her jaw-dropping performance as the legendary Billie Holiday in the Lee Daniels film, “United States vs. Billie Holiday.” This is Andra’s very first movie role and now her very first major award win.

Additionally, John Boyega won for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series for the Amazon show “Small Axe” and the Disney Pixar animated film “Soul” starring Jamie Foxx won for Best Animated Film.

Congrats to all of the 2021 Golden Globe winners!
