Carrie Underwood shines alongside a gospel great in the newly released “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” teaming with CeCe Winans for a spiritual standout.
Part of Underwood’s upcoming album of gospel hymns, My Savior (out March 26), the tender track highlights two of the country superstar’s most celebrated attributes — her soaring vocals and equally powerful sense of faith. Underwood’s dynamic delivery is matched note for note by the Grammy winning Winans, though, making this duet all the more moving.
“It was such an honor to record with gospel royalty,” Underwood writes in the caption to a behind-the-scenes video posted to social media. Meanwhile, the video itself finds her getting emotional as she describes the track’s message — all about being thankful for our daily blessings.
“Again the lyrics, it’s like ‘God you are so good to me,’” a visibly moved Underwood explains. “I woke up today. I’m still breathing. I’m still walking. I’m still singing. I still get to see my kids. Every single one of those things, the things we take for granted.”
“Getting a chance to collaborate with Carrie was awesome,” Winans elaborated. “I’ve been a fan of hers, I think she’s an incredible vocalist. And to hear her sing ‘Great Is Thy Faithfulness’ really just brought it all alive.”
Carrie Underwood embarked on a personal mission to record the gospel hymns she loved as a child for the project, which will arrive next month and was produced by David Garcia. She previously released “Softly and Tenderly” from the upcoming set, and it follows the 2020 release of her first Christmas album, My Gift.
