What a way to end 2020. Putting an end to former President Barack Obama’s 12-year reign, Donald Trump was named America’s most admired man while Michelle Obama was named the most admired woman for the third year in a row, according to a Gallup poll.
Gallup put out the results of its annual poll early this morning, revealing that Barack is now tied with former president Dwight Eisenhower for the most times named most admired man. Other prominent men who made this year’s list include President-elect Joe Biden, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, Elon Musk and LeBron James.
Meanwhile for the women, Michelle Obama remains the most admired woman in the country with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as a close second.
According to Newsweek, Gallup asked a total of 1,018 adults what living man they admire most Donald Trump secured 18 percent of the vote, followed by Barack’s 15 percent.
It’s not uncommon for the current president to be named the nation’s most admired man, but even with Trump’s current standing, Gallup polling also found his approval rating to have dropped to a dismal 39 percent within the same timeframe.
“Past, present and future White House occupants, whether presidents or first ladies, have figured prominently when Gallup has asked Americans to name the man and woman they admire most,” analysis of the polling from Gallup states. “As such, Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Joe Biden are likely to remain strong contenders for the most admired man title in the coming years.”
The approval rating of Biden’s transition is 65 percent in the same timeframe, even though he’s below Trump on the admiration scale.
Considering the poll is only a glimpse of what Americans may think, it would be interesting to see if the numbers change with a larger pool.
It will also be interesting to see who makes the list for 2021. We’ll keep you posted.
