Exclusive Interview With The Multi-Talented – Mr. Joey Stuckey

Hello! Thanks for chatting with me today!

No problem!

What have you been working on lately? Any fun projects coming up?

Well, I have been working on some new T-shirts featuring my avatar, Blink, who is a blind stick figure with a guitar, sunglasses and cane.

These shirts are silly and a lot of fun for fans and while I can’t take credit for drawing them, they are my idea for good merch that works with my brand and as Blink is a stick figure, they aren’t super expensive to produce making me and the fans happy LOL.

Here’s a link to check them out Joey Stuckey – Other Cool Stuff.

I am also putting the final touches on my next album that will be out this year, most likely mid-September. The album is called “One Song At A Time” and it has been a little slow in coming out because of 2 factors. First, I have some songs that I co-wrote with my dear friend Charlie Hoskyns from the UK. Sadly, Charlie passed in 2017 and a few of the songs we recorded I don’t have the multi-tracks for so I am working hard to make our original demos as polished as I can! These songs are just a small fraction of the music on this record, but they mean a lot to me and I know music fans will love them like I do, so I just felt like it was time to share them.

Second, I am a blind brain tumor survivor and I have been reading a book called “Atomic Habits”. Basically it is about making sustainable 1% changes to everything you do. Because of this, I have teamed up with an incredible graphic artist/designer Darren Melchiorre to add that extra something to my album cover art! Darren is very prompt, so it isn’t his fault that we are a bit behind, it just took me a while to find the right person to do this for me, but it has been worth the wait!

Finally, still enjoying the success of my mini documentary “Don’t Blink” from film-maker Courtney Adkisson.

This is a 15-minute film that allows folks to get a good overview of the “Stuckeyverse” in a small consumable bite.

What inspires the music you write?

Everything from the news of the day, to my personal life, to my friends and family and of course the amazing world in which we live!

I am a storyteller that uses music as my medium, so all life and all its facets inspire me and the songs I write!

What draws you to the genre of music you create?

I am a bit of a Renaissance man and an eclectic soul, so I just play what I feel. Currently, that is being expressed as a genre I coined “Progressive Americana”.

However, you will find rock and blues offerings along with jazz and country in my catalog.

So to more fully answer the question, I am drawn to musical expression and I craft whatever genre the music requires to tell the story or express an emotion!

Do you ever get nervous before releasing new music? If so, how do you work through that?

Of course, I want to sell records and I worry about making sure I have the right strategy to get my music to those that will value it and enjoy it. But I know that while I would love my music to be loved by all, that isn’t going to happen, so I just do my best and stay true to what I believe. I don’t ever really worry about how the music is received, some will like it and some won’t and that is as it should be.

What is your favorite part of releasing new music into the world?

I love the entire process, from writing to recording to releasing and to touring to share the music live!

It is all great!

What are some songs or artists you have been enjoying lately?

I love music and am constantly discovering new music and artists while also relistening to old favorites!

The most recent things I have played from my vast music library include:

Jade Bird

James Tayler

Antonio Adolfo

Greta Van Fleet

Just to name a few!!!

Please let everyone know where they can keep up with you and your music!
