Simone Biles Withdraws From Final Tokyo Olympics Team Event Due To A Mental Health Issue

While Simone Biles has been dominating every gymnastics mat she’s set foot on, it was announced on Tuesday morning she would not be competing in the last event with team USA at the Tokyo Olympics.

According to ESPN, Simone returned to the floor with her leg wrapped after landing her vault on Tuesday, and revealed she was withdrawing from the final team competition. The Team USA gymnastics Twitter account released an official statement regarding Simone’s withdrawal, citing that she was having a “medical issue” and later clarified that she decided to take a step back for the sake of her mental health.

“Simone Biles has withdrawn from the team final competition due to a medical issue,” the statement read. “She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions. Thinking of you, Simone!”

Simone later clarified that while she wanted to support her team, she did not want the stress of the events to impact her physical health and decided to withdraw.

“No injury thankfully and thats why I took a step back because I didn’t want to do something silly out there and get injured,” Simone Biles said during a press conference. “So I thought it was best if these girls took over and did the rest of the job which they absolutely did. They’re olympic silver medalists now and they should be really proud of themselves.”

“It’s been really stressful this Olympic Games I think just as a whole,” she continued. “Not having an audience, there are a lot of different variables going into it. It’s been a long week, it’s been a long Olympic process, it’s been a long year. And I think we’re just too stressed out. We should be out here having fun and sometimes that’s not the case.”

It is unclear whether or not Simone Biles will return to any of the Olympic Games but we will keep you updated, Roomies!
