This Week in Country Music: May 30 – June 5

Let’s kick off this installment of This Week in Country Music with something that happened two years ago this week. Valory Records released Thomas Rhett’s album Center Point Road… Thomas told us about how much he loved collaborating with friends for the project.

In 2016, just five years ago, actor Kiefer Sutherland made his debut on the Grand Ole Opry, where he covered Merle Haggard’s “The Bottle Let Me Down”… Kiefer told us Merle’s music changed his life.

24 years ago in 1997, Lee Ann Womack made her Grand Ole Opry debut. Lee Ann, who is a traditional country singer, told us a few years back that there’s room for all kinds of music in the country genre.

This week back in 1984, 37 years ago, RCA released the Rhinestone soundtrack, featuring Dolly Parton and her co-star, Sylvester Stallone. Dolly told me she thinks Stallone got too much flak for the film and that he did a good job.
