Jason Aldean Is Focused on the ‘Cool’ Factor of His New Music

Jason Aldean has made a lot of music over his 20 year country career, from twangy ballads to rock-infused anthems and of course, some tunes with a decidedly hip-hop flavor … remember “Dirt Road Anthem”?

But with album number 10 in the works, and nothing left to prove, Aldean is focused on one thing and one thing only.

Chatting with Audacy’s Katie Neal on the Superstar Power Hour, the “Got What I Got” hit maker says his strategy for picking new music is more simple and straightforward than ever. It’s all about feel.

“I feel like at this point in my career you know, honestly I just want to go out and cut things that I feel like are cool songs that I want to get on stage and play,” says the reigning ACM Artist of the Decade. “My focus is on cutting great songs and things I enjoy singing, and things I want to go out and play, and things that I think the fans will dig.”

There’s no telling what that will amount to next time, but Aldean’s current single is the woozy-boozy barstool anthem, “Blame It On You,” and fans already seem to dig it. After hitting radio last fall, it’s now inside Country radio’s Top 20 — and Aldean says it’s special because two of his band members are co-writers.

Elsewhere in the interview, Jason Aldean also talked about his oldest daughter graduating from high school this year, what it was like for his kids to watch him on American Idol, and more — including what he expects for his return to the stage in May. With two live-audience/live-streamed shows from The Bonnaroo Farm just south of Nashville, the weekend will mark his first shows since last March.

“I’m excited,” he said. “A little nervous just because I feel like we need to practice a lot to get ready.”
