Miranda Lambert and Elle King Go Shot for Shot on New Single

Country superstar Miranda Lambert and rocker Elle King let loose for a wild-night duet in “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home),” re-kindling their magic for a second collaboration.

Co-written by King and Martin Johnson — who also produces the up-tempo anthem — the song features a driving rhythmic stomp and maxed out country-rock edge, mixing rolling banjos with party-all-night vocals. Lambert leads the rebellious second verse and also blends her vocal in with King’s gritty delivery throughout, and King says track’s devil-may-care attitude suits them both well.

“The true story of this song sums up our wild friendship,” she says in a prepared statement. “Miranda is someone I have looked up to as a songwriter, musician, performer, and human being for a long time. So our tumbleweed snowball story of getting to know each other is the ultimate real deal kinda thing. Nobody revs me up, kicks my ass on stage, or treats me more like family than Miranda Lambert.”

The pair toured together in 2019, and Lambert echoed her duet partner’s admiration in an interview with SiriusXM’s The Highway — also noting that the track’s “funky” video allowed the two friends to blow off some much-needed steam.

“We’ve met several times, but we were on tour together for Roadside Bars and Pink Guitars, which was an all-girl tour I did, and we just hit it off, she’s an awesome girl,” she told host Storme Warren. “She asked me to sing on this song and sent it to me, and I’m like ‘Duh.’ It’s just a fun, party anthem, and then nothing happened with it last year, and now we’ve finally got to shoot the video — we did it at the American Legion in Nashville and basically got to play dress up and sing and drink all day, which was great.”

“Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home)” follows the multi-artist collaboration, “Fooled Around and Fell in Love,” which featured the singers along with fellow tourmates Maren Morris, Ashley McBryde, Tenille Townes and Caylee Hammack, and won the ACM Award for Vocal Event of the Year in 2020.

Lambert’s current single, “Settling Down,” is out now, and King released “The Let Go” and “Another You” last year.
